Book of common prayer psalms. Church of England 1681. A book conservation project for the Church of Ireland, Dublin.

The binding structure remained intact and the covers where attached but there was damage to the endpaper joints. It was decided to not break the sewing and carry out a rebind and washing of the paper text block. This was considered irreversible and unnecessary damage to the Bible. Instead, a mechanical clean of paper text block, endpapers and covers was the desired treatment. Repairs to text block with Japanese tissue and shoufu wheat starch paste. The original headbands where irreplaceable and new headbands were resewn to the text block. Repairs to the leather cover involved the consolidation of the leather where it was fragile with Klucel G with toned Japanese tissue used to repair the damaged corners and joints.
